Ruggeri) of Nano Morgante - Dwarf on Turtle Description: This auction is for a small vintage reproduction of Dwarf on a Tortoise sculpture signed by G. Ruggeri, Italian sculptor. VINTAGE SCULPTURE (Signed G. Ruggeri) of Nano Morgante (a fat, naked, male dwarf riding on the back of a tortoise) by Valerio Cioli (1529-1599), from The Boboli Gardens in Florence, Italy. The sculpture is said to illustrate an allegory of laziness and wisdom. Signed on the back of the stepped pedestal base, “G. Ruggeri”, this EXTREMELY RARE PIECE probably dates to the 1950s-1960s, and has a wonderful, aged, ivory patina to it. The statue is made out of oxolyte which is pulverised marble and resin. I think oxolyte is now known as bonded Carrara Marble which comes from the Northern Italian quarry of Carrara. The marble resin and the sculpture ages gracefully, attaining a lovely warm patina that resembles ivory RARE & HARD TO FIND PLEASE SEE ALL PICTURES FOR DETAILS
