Description
Hi. I just wanted to tell you that I'm not new. Don't be afraid to buy from me. Unfortunately, I have to transfer my old ebay account to a new one in the coming weeks. I really don't want it, but I created that old account 13 years ago when I was in Europe and now the address for the first registration and sale is different. I permanently live in South Carolina, USA and it's time to change that. So soon that old account will be inactive. You can check my opinions. I'm sorry for the confusion. This is propably s hand carved sculpture in alabaster or marble is about circa 100 years old, an artist's replica of the very famous "Spinario or Boy with Thorn" statue in the Capitoline Museum in Rome. The original bronze statue depicts a young boy pulling a thorn from his bare foot and dates from the first century BC. It was part of the group of classical bronzes given by Pope Sixtus V to begin the museum. Widely copied over 2000 years, this example was carved in Italy from a single block of creamy white alabaster or marble, attached to a separate round base of grained marble. It was not signed, as is customary when replicating a famous earlier sculpture or painting. This work of art is in excellent conditione This beloved classical antique is just over 5.5" tall without head This boy has a mysterious and romantic history. As you can see, being here in the US, he lost his head for a beautiful girl from the South. Unfortunately, she didn't want him..... And the truth is that while he was probably wandering here from Europe and then passing through different owners, there was an accident somewhere and his head was damaged. When it was on estate sale, I just bought it because he looked so unimaginably sad with its head attached to the base in a bag. I really wanted to fix it. But then I read about his history and thought I am not an expert. My actions can cause him even more damage. Maybe someone who will love it like me will buy it. Maybe you will be the one to give him professional help. There are no returns. Be sure that you want buy this. In overall good cosmetic condition like as him age. Condition like at photo.
