ATH#230299 Hattakitkosol Somchai (Thailand, 1934-2000) Bronze Sculpture of a Bird In Flight 13 ½” Tall x 9” Wide On a 3 ½” square base VINTAGE – Not a current reproduction UNIQUE CONTEMPORARY POSITIONING Somchai sculpted a number of other “Birds In flight” in various positions. This appears to be a Limited Edition #95 (Signed SOMCHIA 95 – see photos) I have been unable to find this same sculpture during an internet search – plenty of birds in flight by Somchai in various poses, but none in this pose. Note that the Body / Tail of the bird is the Highest point – that one wing goes a little down and out, and the other downward. Keep this in mind as you might look through the internet on your own for a matching sculpture (which, again, I could not find) The marble base has a chip in one upper corner. See photos. Maybe ½” wide + tall It sits on a wooden platform. The wood base is cracked and “old” looking. This was probably added sometime after this left the foundry. Why? I am not sure . . . you might consider removing the wood base and replacing it with felt feet, or whatever. My best guess if that as this is a hard to find pose, and that it is numbered as a limited edition, that this was a small run, versus his other work that may have been open editions And that’s why I have this – it is relatively unique to the universe of his other sculptures!
