Description
Antique Bronzed Metal/Alabaster Sculptural Mantel Clock w/Knight Figure c.1880s : : Presented is a very impressive gilt metal sculptural mantel clock with Medieval knight figure. It consists of a very ornate heavy base made of polished alabaster with brass mountings, a statue of a Medieval knight in armor, and the clock itself in a brass case with porcelain dial. The knight has a cross on his surcoat he wears atop of his mail shirt - most likely this is a statue of a Crusader. The statue is made of spelter - a bronze substitute used for less expensive sculptural objects, bronzed and gilt. The clock is in a fair condition - the gilt shows no wear and there is no major damage to the base or the statue. The statue is missing something that the knight was holding in his hands, the porcelain dial shows some chipping and the back of the base is missing a foot. However, it stands straight and presents quite impressively. I don't know if the clock works - this is more like an art object - a beautiful antique sculptural clock - elegant and impressive. It is quite large - 11" tall and 13" wide. Very heavy. Reference#: Condition: see description Year: c.1880s Country: Height: 11 in Materials: Brass, bronzed metal, alabaster Pictures sell!
